I just received this response letter from Sabrina Hamilton

Air and Radiation Liaison Specialist and FOIA Coordinator

Office of Air and Radiation – Office of Air Policy and Program Support

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)

Dear Dr. Hargraves:

Thank you for your letter of April 9, 2025, addressed to Administrator Lee Zeldin, in which you

expressed your concern about the economics of investing in nuclear power and questioned the system of radiation protection as it is currently implemented in the United States.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is committed to supporting the use of advanced and emerging nuclear technologies and to ensure American energy dominance while safeguarding public health and the environment. The system of radiation protection employed in the United States is consistent with international standards and the radiation dose limits in place for most countries, including the countries you mentioned in your letter and other nations which rely heavily on nuclearpower generation.

The economics of nuclear power is complex and driven by many interdependent factors which vary for different countries. As a public health agency, our mission is to protect human health and the environment. The EPA is keenly interested in research findings that can better elucidate the effects of exposure to low doses and low dose rates of radiation as applicable to protection of populations of heterogenous individuals. We follow scientific advances so that prudent public health recommendations continue to be based on the latest scientific consensus.

Again, thank you for your letter. I am grateful for the opportunity to be of service and trust the

information provided is helpful.
